ASSESSMENT
Accurate assessment of student learning is fundamental to making informed decisions about lesson planning. Teachers need to constantly monitor their students and engage in spontaneous assessment opportunities to allow students to reflect on their learning and assist you in deciding where the students are in relation to their learning, where they need to go and how best to get them there (Churchill et al, 2011).
Assessment FOR learning
I use formative assessment in order to decipher each students ability level, monitor students' progress and to inform my future teaching. Examples of me implementing this type of assessment include:
- Taking regular observation notes and anecdotal records in the classroom to document student progress and to guide future learning.
- Use assessment strategies such as KWL Charts and Mind Maps. - Use questioning techniques and informal discussion to determine students prior knowledge, ideas and understanding.
Assessment AS learning
I use assessment as learning approaches to help students reflect upon and monitor their progress and to help me inform their future learning and my teaching. Examples of me implementing this type of assessment include:
- Using self and peer assessment and reflection tasks such as rubrics, KWL charts, discussions and questionnaires to help develop independent and reflective learners
- I provide ongoing and constant feedback to help student reflect on their learning.

Assessment OF learning
I use summative assessment to measure students achievement and assess students performance against specific learning outcomes. This allows me to determine whether students have met desired outcomes or learning goals. Examples of me implementing this type of assessment include:
- Assessing individual work samples and providing feedback
- Involvement in NAPLAN preparation, testing and moderation
- Administering tests based on learning outcomes
- Create and use rubrics to assist in assessing learning outcomes

Reporting is a means of communicating learning and achievement outcomes, gained through various forms of assessment, to students, parents and other stakeholders.
I have observed various ways my supervising teachers have reported to students, parents and fellow staff members including:
- Classroom diaries that are sent home each day
- Constant and timely notes on students work
- Moderation of student work with fellow staff members
- Twice yearly reports
- Student/Parent/Teacher Interviews
