literacy
In my literacy classroom I will incorporate a variety of teaching and learning strategies, techniques, activities and resources in order to cater for the differing abilities and styles of learning that students will possess. It will include multimodal approaches to literacy incorporating a variety of print, screen and interactive tasks that allow students to develop their literacy skills and see its relevance in their life outside of school. There will be a vast range of texts used, differentiated teaching, modeled, shared, guided, independent reading and writing, whole-small-whole strategy, ability groupings, rotations and much more.
I have had experience implementing and observing the following :
Phonic awareness activities Persuasive writing tasks Poetry reading and writing Procedural writing Sentence structure Punctuation Recount writing Multimodal approaches to reading and writing Modeled, Shared, Guided and Independent reading and writing Spelling Tests Look Cover Write Check Student Dictionaries Oral presentations Book reviews Letter writing Reading corner Letterland, Sunshine Online, Reading Eggs Writers Workshop and Notebooks Incorporation of ICT Self and peer assessment A literacy approach for ESL students called 'Accelerated Literacy'. and much more. I want to create a classroom where my students are excited about reading and writing and thus will allow student choice in what they read and write. For example, If the topic is procedural writing students can choose to focus on a specific recipe or set of instructions to build something - whichever they prefer. |
